SKILLET is an American Christian rock band originally formed in Memphis, Tennessee. The band consists of John Cooper (lead vocalist, bassist), his wife Korey Cooper (rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist), Ben Kasica (lead guitarist), and Jen Ledger (drummer, vocalist). Skillet has released eight albums, two receiving Grammy nominations: Collide and Comatose. Over the past 15 years, Skillet has spanned many different genres, including hard rock, industrial rock, and symphonic rock. As of March 2010 they have sold 1.6 million albums worldwide.
[John Cooper]
John (born April 7, 1975) formed Skillet in 1996 with Ken Steorts. Both had met while touring for previous bands; John as vocalist for the Tennessee progressive rock band Seraph and Ken Steorts guitarist for Urgent Cry. The bands disbanded soon after, so John and Ken's pastor encouraged them to form their own band as a side-project. Coming from different styles of rock music, they decided to name the experiment Skillet. Soon afterwards Trey McClurkin joined the band as a temporary drummer. Skillet was only together for a month when they received interest from major Christian record label ForeFront Records and were signed soon afterwards. Ken Steorts left the band in 1999 and Trey McClurkin left the band in 2000 leaving John as the only founding member of the band and primary songwriter.
[Korey Cooper]
Korey Cooper (born July 21, 1972) is the keyboardist, guitarist, and backing vocalist for the Christian Rock band Skillet. Her husband, John Cooper, is the lead singer and bassist of the band, as well as one of the founding members. Before joining Skillet, Korey was a member of the band Alkeme along with Lori Peters, other people from her church, and her sister. Korey joined Skillet in 1999, between the albums Hey You, I Love Your Soul and Invincible. Their album Comatose was certified as Gold on November 18, 2009.
[Ben Kasica]
Benjamin Judah Kasica (born April 15, 1984) is the lead guitarist for the Christian rock band Skillet. He joined the band in 2001 at the age of sixteen, and has recorded the albums Collide, Comatose (which went Gold on November 18, 2009) and Awake with them. While he didn't join the band until five years into its existence, he was only twelve when the band was first formed.
[Jen Ledger]
Jennifer Carole Ledger (born December 8, 1989) is the drummer and backing vocalist for the Grammy Award-nominated Christian rock/hard rock band Skillet. At age 18 she became Skillet's drummer when their former drummer Lori Peters retired. Ledger from Coventry, England came to the United States at age 16 to major in drums at Living Light School of Worship in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ledger says quote "Little did I know that three years I would still be here playing in the band Skillet." She toured as Skillet's drummer on the "Comatose Tour," where she sang a vocal solo in "Yours to Hold." Ledger sings on the tracks 'Hero' and 'Awake and Alive” on the album Awake. She also sings backup vocals in the hit song "Monster" as heard in the remix recently featured as the intro to an official Skillet podcast.
